
About the Role
We are seeking a remote Financial Aid Advisor to guide students and families through the financial aid process from initial inquiry through disbursement. This is ideal for a candidate who is detail-oriented, service-minded, and eager to build expertise in federal, state, and institutional aid regulations. The full-time Financial Aid Advisor will serve as a trusted point of contact for students navigating the cost of their education, balancing compliance and accuracy with empathetic, high-touch counseling.
Key Responsibilities
• Advise prospective and current students and their families on financial aid options, eligibility requirements, and the steps in the application process, via phone, email, video, and chat.
• Assist students in completing and submitting financial aid applications, including the FAFSA, state aid
forms, and institutional documentation.
• Review, verify, and process financial aid applications for accuracy and completeness, determining eligibility for grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study in accordance with federal, state, and institutional policy.
• Perform required verification procedures and monitor student files to ensure compliance with Title IV and
other applicable regulations.
• Track student progress toward required documentation and satisfactory academic progress, following up as needed to prevent processing delays.
• Educate students and families on award packages, loan repayment options, and general financial literacy and budgeting concepts.
• Maintain current, working knowledge of federal, state, and institutional financial aid regulations and
communicate relevant changes to students.
• Support and, over time, help facilitate financial aid workshops, webinars, and orientation sessions for
prospective and current students.
• Partner with admissions, the registrar, student accounts, and academic advising to support student
enrollment and retention.
• Maintain accurate, well-organized electronic student records in the financial aid management system.
• Deliver responsive, professional customer service, resolving routine inquiries independently and escalating complex eligibility questions appropriately.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by financial aid leadership.
Qualifications
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Education, Counseling, Communications, or a related field
preferred.
• 2 years of experience in financial aid, student services, higher education administration, or customer service; an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Working knowledge of federal (Title IV) and state financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with a
diverse population of students and families.
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and
deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Sound judgment and problem-solving ability when handling sensitive or complex student situations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort learning financial aid management or student information
systems (e.g., Banner, PeopleSoft, PowerFAIDS, or similar).
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive student financial and personal information in
accordance with FERPA.
• Self-motivated and disciplined to work effectively in a fully remote environment, with reliable high-speed
internet and a private, quiet workspace.
Compensation & Logistics
• Location: Fully remote, currently hiring from one of the following states AK, AL, AR, AZ, FL, MI, MO,
NC, OH, PA, SC
• Schedule: Full-time; availability required during core business hours of 9 AM – 4 PM, and possibly up to
8 PM Central time zone and busy month Dec, Jan, Feb, August, September, October
• Compensation: $18-22/hr commensurate with experience
