Director of Financial Aid

Overview

In Fortis Institute Birmingham, you will lead the Financial Aid Department to ensure compliant, timely aid delivery. You will partner with Admissions to support recruitment and with campus leadership to align aid practices with retention goals. You'll shape internal controls, guide staff training, and uphold high-quality service for students. This role offers impact by enabling student success through responsible financial aid management and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Manage and lead the Financial Aid Department and uphold sound business principles
• Ensure compliance with federal/state regulations, accreditation standards, and institutional policies
• Collaborate with Admissions and campus stakeholders to support recruitment and retention
• Supervise, train, and develop staff within the department
• Disburse and package financial aid according to established policies and regulations
• Provide accurate financial aid data and reporting; support timely processing of aid
• Deliver high-quality customer service to students and families
• Support school recruiting and admissions strategies through the aid delivery process

Key requirements

• Bachelor degree and at least 5 years of recent financial aid experience
• Prior leadership experience in student financial aid
• Knowledge of current laws, regulations, and financing options relating to student financial aid
• Experience with Campus Vue and NSLDS systems
• Experience with Fame, Director Loan, Common Origination, and Disbursement borrower data management systems is highly desired
• Must not have NSLDS restrictions
