Job Summary

The Director of Financial Aid Services has the primary responsibility for administering the college's Financial Aid program in compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Enrollment Management Services. The Director of Financial Aid Services plays a key role in fostering a positive work environment with the expectation of continuous improvement and first-class customer service. The incumbent participates in divisional activities as a member of the Enrollment Management Services Division. Collaborative and team-oriented skills with a commitment to student success are essential attributes for the individual in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic leadership for the Financial Aid Office by proactively identifying innovative and resourceful approaches to administering aid, improving processes, and serving students, while responsibly leveraging available institutional, federal, and state resources in support of continuous improvement.
  • Ensures full compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations governing financial aid programs and upholds the NASFAA Statement of Ethical Principles, maintaining the highest standards of integrity, accountability, and stewardship in the administration of all aid funds. Develops internal policies and procedures to mitigate risk. Applies policies in a consistent and appropriate manner.
  • Oversees the accurate, timely, and consistent administration of all financial aid programs, ensuring predictable and dependable processing, awarding, disbursement, reconciliation, and reporting practices that students, staff, and campus partners can trust.
  • Manages institutional, federal, and state aid budgets with fiscal responsibility and transparency; monitors expenditures, forecasts aid utilization, and seeks fiscally sound, resourceful strategies to maximize student support while maintaining compliance and institutional sustainability.
  • Leads, supervises, and develops Financial Aid staff by fostering a unified and respectful office culture; encourages collaboration, shared accountability, continuous learning, and mutual support.
  • Ensures a welcoming, respectful, and student-centered service environment by promoting approachability, clear communication, and supportive treatment for all students, families, and community members, while addressing complex cases consistently and with care.
  • Uses data analysis and assessment to evaluate financial aid processes, compliance risks, student outcomes, and equity impacts; applies findings to inform decisions and pursue continuous, resourceful improvement across office operations.
  • Acts as a dependable campus partner by collaborating with Enrollment Management, Student Accounts, Admissions, Registrar, Student Affairs, and other stakeholders; demonstrates transparency, mutual respect, and awareness of how financial aid decisions affect the broader institution.
  • Oversees the timely and accurate communication of financial aid policies, procedures, and processes; ensures the development and implementation of outreach and financial literacy efforts that foster awareness, understanding, and responsible decisionmaking among students, families, and campus partners. Delivers financial aid presentations in varied settings as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field
  • 8+ years of relevant experience
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate Degree
  • Experience with Title IV regulations, state aid, and compliance
  • Experience with financial aid management systems
  • Experience working with graduate programs;
  • Experience with Ellucian's Banner Student Information Systems specifically setup and implementation;
  • NASFAA Certified Financial Aid Administrator (CFAA) or other professional credentials;
  • Proven leadership in a financial aid office.

Proposed Salary

71,700 - 91,400

Salary offer will be dependent on candidate's experience and qualifications, internal equity considerations, budget availability, and salary administration guidelines.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to manage complex budgets.
  • Thorough knowledge of needs analysis, verification processes, Satisfactory Academic progress, and Return of Title IV funds (R2T4) calculations.
  • Experience in supervising staff, strategic planning, and fostering teamwork.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for counseling students/families and presenting to various groups.
  • Critical thinking to resolve complex aid scenarios, compliance issues, and student concerns.
  • Focused approach to assisting students and their families and supporters in a positive, empathetic, and welcoming environment.
