Position Overview
Rider University invites applications for the Director, Student Financial Accounts. Reporting to the Director of One Stop Services and Financial Aid Services, this individual will provide leadership and operational oversight for all functions of the Bursar/Student Accounts Office. This position is responsible for the administration, integrity, and compliance of student billing, accounts receivable, cash management, third-party billing, refund processing, and collections activities. The Director ensures the accurate and timely billing of tuition and fees, safeguards institutional revenue, maintains strong internal controls, and delivers exceptional customer service to students and families. The role serves as the primary functional lead for the student billing system and is a liaison to OIT, Finance, Financial Aid, the Registrar, and external auditors.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- Progressive experience in student accounts, accounts receivable, or higher education financial operations.
- Demonstrated experience administering student billing in a student information system.
- Strong knowledge of billing table configuration, rate management, and refund processing.
- Supervisory experience.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Excel and reporting tools.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Demonstrated commitment to high-quality customer service.
- Satisfactory background and/or DMV checks required.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- 5-7 years of progressively responsible experience in higher education student accounts or bursar operations.
- Experience with collections strategy development and revenue recovery.
- Knowledge of federal Title IV regulations and compliance requirements.
- Understanding of financial statement preparation and audit processes.
