
Assistant Director of Financial Aid/Operations (Financial Aid)
SUNY Broome Community College has an immediate opening for an in-person, full-time, Assistant Director of Financial Aid/Operations in the Financial Aid Office. This position provides leadership and technical expertise in the administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs, while overseeing day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Office. The Assistant Director reports to the Director of Financial Aid. The Assistant Director ensures compliance with applicable regulations and College policies, supports and trains Financial Aid staff, and oversees financial aid systems, processing, reporting, and student services.
This position has a standard workweek of Monday through Friday, occasional evenings and Saturdays as needed.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
- Oversee Financial Aid Operations: Lead day-to-day Financial Aid Office operations, workflows, staff productivity, training, and professional development while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional requirements.
- Manage Financial Aid Systems and Data: Oversee financial aid data exchanges, processing, reporting, system workflows, annual system updates, and coordination with Information Technology Services to resolve issues and improve processes.
- Administer Financial Aid Programs: Determine student eligibility and awards for federal, state, and institutional programs, including APTS and EOP; manage student budgets, needs analysis, verification, Return to Title IV, and related compliance requirements.
- Monitor and Resolve Student Aid Issues: Review and correct financial aid records; address over-awards, overpayments, enrollment changes, transfer records, discrepancies, and other issues affecting student eligibility and awards.
- Develop Procedures, Training, and Resources: Create and maintain staff training materials, operational procedures, financial aid reports, and student-facing resources, including the financial aid self-service portal.
- Provide Student Services and Outreach: Counsel students and parents regarding financial aid requirements and processes and provide presentations and outreach to prospective and current students through campus and community events.
- Coordinate Cross-Departmental Activities: Collaborate with the Registrar, Bursar, Assistant Controller, academic departments, IT, and other campus offices on student outcome tracking, financial aid reporting, data needs, and operational initiatives.
- Reporting and Compliance: Conduct research, monitor financial aid activity, and prepare required internal and external reports while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations and College policies.
Requirements
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Business, Student Affairs, or a related field required. Additional education or training beyond the bachelor's degree preferred.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in financial aid within an educational institution or public agency.
- Two (2) to three (3) years of supervisory experience required.
- Experience managing or working directly with financial aid computer systems preferred.
- Ability to coordinate a series of responsibilities for federal, state, and local financial aid programs.
- Knowledge of Title IV programs and processes preferred.
- Knowledge of college administrative systems and SQL programming preferred.
- Familiarity with tax forms and other documentation used to collect and verify financial information.
- Ability to work effectively and professionally with a diverse student population, families, employees, and the public.
- Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship from the employer.
Additional Information
The minimum salary for this position is $68,361. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
