Position Summary
The Associate Director of Financial Aid and Admissions supports the mission of the University of Northern Colorado College of Osteopathic Medicine by serving as a critical team member in both financial aid and admissions functions. This role is split equally between providing financial aid support, including financial literacy education and advising, and supporting admissions functions such as recruitment and applicant screening. The Associate Director works closely with medical students, applicants, and the broader enrollment team to ensure a seamless experience from recruitment through matriculation. This position involves travel and requires flexible scheduling, including occasional evening and weekend hours.
Job Duties
Financial Aid and Financial Literacy (45%)
- Serve as the first point of contact for medical students and applicants regarding financial aid and scholarship inquiries and support.
- Conduct annual financial aid counseling sessions with medical students to support understanding of aid options, debt management, and budget planning.
- Assist with financial aid packaging and document verification in collaboration with the UNC Office of Financial Aid.
- Plan and coordinate financial literacy sessions for current medical students covering topics such as loan repayment, budgeting, and financial planning for residency.
- Track, document, and report financial aid, scholarship, and advising activities to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
- Serve as a liaison with the UNC Office of Financial Aid and other university departments to ensure timely and accurate delivery of services related to financial aid and scholarships.
Admissions and Recruitment (45%)
- Participate in the planning and execution of recruitment activities, including recruitment fairs, open houses, campus preview days, and second-look events.
- Assist with applicant screening processes and file preparation.
- Track and respond to prospective student inquiries, maintaining updated records in the CRM. Provide event planning and logistical support for admissions and recruitment programming.
- Coordinate scheduling for applicants, committee members, and events.
- Maintain detailed records and assist with reporting and analysis related to admissions and recruitment.
- Represent UNC COM professionally at internal and external events.
- Support the creation of program materials, schedules, and forms for events and student engagement.
Other Responsibilities (10%)
- Provide support as needed for key college events and programming across Admissions, Student Affairs, and Curriculum, including but not limited to the White Coat Ceremony, Bridging Ceremony, Commencement, Match Day, wellness initiatives, interprofessional activities, and board preparation events.
- Assist with developing content and consulting on social media and marketing strategies
- Provide general administrative support to Admissions and Enrollment Services and Scholarship Committee as directed.
Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs.
May supervise work study or student staff
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- At least 2 years of experience in higher education, with a minimum of 1 year in financial aid
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Zoom, and social media platforms.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to travel and work evenings/weekends as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with private loan counseling and processing.
- At least 4 years of experience in higher education, with at least 2 year in a medical school setting, specifically supporting financial aid.
- Experience in financial aid packaging and financial counseling.
- Familiarity with admissions and enrollment management systems (e.g., AMP, Slate, Ellucian).
- Demonstrated ability to use social media platforms for recruitment and engagement.
- Experience facilitating or supporting financial literacy programs or advising sessions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of financial aid processes, including private loans, packaging, counseling, and student loan repayment options.
- Understanding of medical school admissions, recruitment, and applicant engagement strategies.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills to support prospective and current students.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, Zoom, and social media platforms for administrative and outreach tasks.
- Ability to plan and coordinate events such as recruitment fairs, financial literacy sessions, and student programs.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain records, and ensure confidentiality.
