Role Description The Assistant Director for Loans and Outside Aid is a full-time, hybrid role located in Waterbury, CT, with some work-from-home flexibility. This position oversees the administration of student loans and outside aid programs, ensuring accurate processing, compliance with institutional and regulatory policies, and timely communication with students and families. Day-to-day responsibilities include evaluating financial aid applications, coordinating loan disbursements, reconciling aid records, and responding to inquiries from students, families, and campus partners. The role collaborates with other financial aid and student services staff to improve processes, develop and update policies, and provide clear guidance on borrowing and external funding options. The Assistant Director also supports outreach and education efforts, including workshops, information sessions, and resource materials related to loans and outside aid.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of financial aid administration, including student loan programs and outside scholarships or grants, and familiarity with higher education regulations.
- Skills in data analysis, record management, and use of student information systems or financial aid software to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities for explaining complex financial information clearly to students, families, and colleagues.
- Proven organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills in resolving issues related to financial aid and student accounts.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment while also functioning independently with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and providing supportive service to a diverse student population.
- Bachelor’s degree required; experience in financial aid, student accounts, or related higher education administration is strongly preferred.
