Job Summary

The Financial Aid Processing Specialist is responsible for the processing of financial aid and assisting with processing of loan applications and scholarship awards. The Financial Aid Processing Specialist will also provide financial aid counseling to students and parents.

Supervisorial Responsibilities: None but may provide direction to student workers.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Possesses strong organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of basic math skills.
  • Possesses a clear understating of the financial aid process and have an understanding of financial aid processing software systems.
  • Demonstrates clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Provides strong customer service and inter-personal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to cooperatively work with diverse groups of students and staff.
  • Understanding of basic administrative processes and procedures.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Office Productivity Suite.
  • Understanding of basic computer operations and office equipment.
  • Demonstrates efficient keyboard and data entry accuracy and speed.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in business, accounting, or a related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in a position that is responsible for processing financial aid documents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) language preferred.

Physical Demands

  • Work is normally performed in a general office environment.
  • Work performed requires sensitivity and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities and needs.
  • This position requires light physical activity and movement; employee must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone or during virtual meetings. Must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects up to 25 pounds with the use of proper equipment. Description of Job Duty

  • Counsel students and parents regarding aid eligibility, academic progress, and student accounts.
  • Conducts outreach to students and parents via phone and email to assist with the completion of their financial aid information.
  • Assists the Coordinator of Financial Aid with timely processing of student loan request information from students or parents to complete loan application process.
  • Assists with reconciling Federal Direct Loans monthly with the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) system and the Business Office.
  • Conducts loan entrance counseling and exit counseling, as appropriate.
  • Awards and processes scholarships from external and internal agencies, such as, the Kish Foundation, Athletic Department, Boulos Foundation, etc.
  • Creates new award types from external and internal sources as needed.
  • Conducts verification to ensure eligible students are receiving the correct amount of financial assistance.
  • Serves as backup with general reception responsibilities, such as receiving guests or visitors, answering phones, receiving correspondence, and responding as appropriate.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities, as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by reporting manager.
