Role Overview
The Finance Manager oversees the firm’s financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong financial performance. This role provides financial insights to leadership, manages accounting operations, billing, collections, trust accounting, and supports strategic initiatives that strengthen the firm’s financial health.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop forecasts, budgets, and financial analyses.
- Monitor cash flow, revenue trends, and profitability.
- Lead initiatives to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.
- Oversee billing, collections, timekeeping accuracy, and compliance with trust/IOLTA rules.
- Manage AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, audits, and tax filings.
- Optimize financial systems and software tools.
- Lead the billing and collections teams to improve cash flow.
- Support partner compensation modeling and resource allocation.
- Improve financial systems, workflows, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with tax filings, trust accounting, audits, and lender requirements.
- Mentor and lead the finance team.
- Report directly to firm COO
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s/MBA preferred.
- 5+ years of financial management experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
- Experience with legal billing systems, trust accounting, and compliance.
- Proficiency with financial software such as SurePoint, Elite, Aderant, or Clio.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment with high integrity.
- Strategic financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, process improvement, and team development skills.
